This might go down as one of the lamest “so I met’s” because not only did I only talk to him for a couple of minutes but I probably committed the cardinal sin, which was that I went up and talked to him when no one was around and asked him a question about someone else…
Probably because I had never read one of his books, even though he has sold about 500 million of them.
But he gave a great speech at the IDEA conference in Los Angeles in 2016 as the keynote so as he was getting off stage I walked up to him and asked him what he thought of Jim Rohn.
Not totally out of the blue, since he had a Rohn quote in his presentation. He did a great Rohn imitation, but I thought they had met more than just a couple of times which is what he said. I have become a big Rohn junkie over the last few years so I was hoping for some insight into someone who I thought had mentored under him.
Shows what I know.
Even more impressive than his speech, was how adept he seemed to be about navigating crowds and people.
“Walk with me” was what he said as person after person tried to talk to him and get and autograph and invite him to lunch. He had no handlers or bodyguards. Just his smooth voice and a very clear idea of where he needed to get to and how to get there. It was impressive stuff from an impressive guy, with thousands of people milling around.
Maybe next time I will have a more impressive question for him.
