These aren’t the greatest … just the greatest you probably have never even heard o
f.
- The Limey: Terrance Stamp, Peter Fonda, and that guy who is in every movie who you like but don’t know his name all bring it along with a haunting soundtrack completed by excellent Soderbergh directing – and some crazy flashbacks and dead pan comedy. The scene in the office with Stamp and the dectetive was one we re-watched over and over again in college to try and get the timing… “There is just one thing I don’t understand.”
2. Way of the Gun
3. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
4. Momento
5. Gattica
6. Sunshine (the soundtrack saves the lame ending
7. The Thin Red Line
8. Hollywood Shuffle (yup)
9. Leningrad Cowboys Come to America – (Think Russian Blues Brothers)
10. The Accountant (recent entry)
Deciding Factors for my IMHO grading opinion:
- Weird Factor – Normally Very high
- Soundtrack – Has to be killer
- Powerhouse acting – which to me means staring off into the distance a lot and not saying much –
- Flashbacks – who doesn’t love flashbacks – see also momento
- Subtle Comedy – slow and dark
