Sometimes you just have that song that starts off the whole day on a good inspirational note. It makes you feel like your in a movie, or maybe it just gets you going and makes you forget how friggin’ tired you are.
So here are some DayStarters (Especially for entrepreneurial junkies) that you
might think about listening to as soon as you get out of bed. All the links listed are for Spotify, because that’s just how we roll lately.
- So it Goes – Greg Haines – The classic slow brooding simple song (which feels kind of like the 1st movement of Gorecki’s 3rd symphony [which is probably a bit too long to be a true daystarter, more like a weekstarter]) builds to a huge crescendo in a nice loop that even a non-classical music fan might enjoy.
- Journey to the Line – Hans Zimmer – Basically if you started everyone of your days with Hans Zimmer you would probably have a lot of good days, because he is the man, but this one is particularly great for its pure minimalism and building loop (recurring theme for daystarters). You will probably recognize it from approximately 1 billion different movie trailers but it is originally from the Soundtrack to the Thin Red Line when they storm the village. I actually used to start many of my days back when I was a young lad watching this part of the movie. Also I am a wierdo….
- Immunity – Jon Hopkins – One of my favorite recent additions, another slow building loop with haunting vocals that you might find coming back to you throughout the day. Basically Jon Hopkins is amazing, if you didn’t already know. I often start my day off with Immunity. While one of his slower tracks, it’s still a thing of beauty.
- Santiago – Bedrock (St James Mix) – Looking to start the day on a quicker note, like maybe going for a jog or hitting the gym? The first 3 tracks are probably best for some morning meditation, but Santiago with the beautiful foreign vocals and nice 404 rolling in the background definitely hits the snooze button hard if you are lacing up some running shoes or looking for something a bit quicker out of the gate.
- Never Lose Your Innocence – Khen – Along the lines of the quicker starts, this one takes about 2 minutes to get going, but if your running, lifting, or just need to wake the heck up I always find the rolling synth in the back a really enjoyable fun hook that you will find yourself looking forward hearing again hours after you listen to it.
- Engage (Original Mix) – Dale Middleton – Starting quiet and building to a great break beat bass line, this is not only a great song to start your day or workout too, but probably a great song to start that sweet mix-tape that you should have made for your lovely 3 months ago (get to it!). One of my all time favorite DJ’s Guy J started many of his mixes with this song for a while, and for good reason … its simply a great “starter” song for lots of occasions.
- 44 (Noise Version) – Apparat – You’ve made it this far – why not get a bit wierder… Much like one of my favorite Daft Punk Songs “Rollin’ and Scratching” it might take a few listens for this one to grow on you. Heck you might find some of the sounds downright annoying, and you definitely want to listen to it on good speakers or probably headphones, and not some dinky bluetooth contraption. But if you give it time you might discover that’s a fairly inspirational tune that has 2 huge crescendos for the price of one.
- Threshold (Live) – Not Applicable – A very interesting song I stumbled across one day that went from “this is interesting” to “this is how I start off my day for a year straight.” If super beautiful yet haunting vocals that you can’t quite understand sounds like a way to start your day, then this is the track for you.
So there you have it. Drop me a line if you have your own DayStarter ideas and we can compare notes and swap more weird tracks –
