We invented and played the resume game last week when we were looking to hire a new developer. Take all of the top candidates after you filter out phone screens and people who didn’t “follow directions” and lay them out on the floor:

Then you have people in the office pick their top 2 – you aren’t actually allowed to read any of the qualifications on the paper or make any other judgements except for how it is organized and what it looks like.
Its an interesting process. You notice one thing right off the bat…. 3 of the 9 resume’s have an “overflow” page [a page that is more than half blank] that probably could have been eliminated:

I saw this in another interview for a different company later that same week – a 2 page resume that had about 2 sentences on the 2nd page with a staple in it. Just something to contemplate when you are looking for great team members… has this person actually printed out their resume and seen how it looks visually on paper, and do they have a really obvious overflow page like the green circle at the top? If you care about quality, and presentation, and attention to detail, its a good place to start before you even read what’s on the paper.
If anyone has any other ideas for the resume game give me a holler.
