I am fascinated by the Lyft and Uber model like anyone. But as I ride Lfyt more, I am also fascinated by how individual drivers choose to differentiate themselves. Whats their personalization or customization of the ride experience. Do they have a basket of candy? Magazines or books? Free water bottles?
I had a ride a week ago with a driver who said very little except muttered “SEATBELT!” after I had been in the car for about 4 seconds and was blasting Lincoln Park the whole time … actually one of their songs is not so bad.
Fast forward to yesterday – enter a Lfyt with a totally quiet car and James the rockstar driver hands me a headphone cord. “It’s your ride … pick the music that you want off your phone.”
What a great concept, customize your ride with the music you want. Of course I warned James that I like weird electronic music, but he didn’t mind and we had a cool talk about his future and how he wants to be a General Manager of a soccer team some day.
This is the second awesome lyft ride I have had this month. One guy recommended a great book on back pain to me. James was the second. Unsuprsingly both were awesome at conversation and also had ample free water, and cared about if you were enjoying the ride.
I am working on music as a customization factor for some other work projects, but James made it as simple as can be. Not “what station would you like?” Not “would you like me to turn on some music?” Just hands you the cord and says this is your ride put on the music that YOU like.
“But this cord doesn’t actually work with my new fandangled phone” I muttered.
To no ones surprise, James had the adapter easily accessible too. Because a PRO understands that the experience is all about what the other person likes.
Nice work James.
