Sorry to gross anyone out for a second, but as I get older the human body amazes me. And one of things I find amazing is its waste disposal system. It takes all the bad stuff and gets rid of it on a (hopefully) fairly regular basis. Or said differently:
Every morning – most people take a poop.
Its really an amazing system. The human body has to be one of the most advanced machines ever created. Most of my laptops make it about 3 years. My human laptop is going strong after about 40.
But for all the frequency and consistency of literally taking a dump, how often do we allow our brain to take a dump. How would you do it? I would say maybe when you sleep that your brain is dropping a deuce, except that most of the time it feels like my brain is working on overdrive, putting me dreams that don’t make sense or making me feel guilty being back in high school but never going to class … thanks a lot brain!!
So how does your brain take a dump? Meditation? Maybe? Beyond that, I don’t know. But is it any wonder that everyone is so rundown and stressed out with all of those ideas and thoughts and worries and to-do lists rattling around in their brain everyday.
My awesome wife had a problem with her laptop a few days ago. It was literally not copying or pasting. The trusty old CTRL-C just wasn’t working. My first thought:
Just restart it.
Not shockingly, this instantly fixes the problem and everyone goes about their busy lives…. after a quick reboot.
How many times have one of us had a computer or cell phone that’s just “running slow” or “acting up” or glitching or freezing. Maybe there are too many programs open at once, maybe its just maxed out and it needs a reboot. And then after the reboot … things are kind back to normal. Piece of cake.
How do you hit control-alt-delete on your brain. Get really drunk? Hit yourself over the head with a stick? I dunno. When there are too many programs running in your brain at once, and everything gets slow and stuck, how do you reboot?
Go on a vacation? Yeah I really dunno. Vacations are awesome, but half the time sleeping in some strange bed with the kids feet in my face in a new setting, it feels like you need a break once you get back from the vacation.
Go play in the park or exercise? Yeah maybe. I always seems to have a few new good ideas fall out of my head after a good workout or pushing around the “idea sled” – But is that a reboot, or just maintenance.
If anyone has any good brain reboot ideas, please pass them on.
Now I am off to take a (non-brain) dump …
